Wednesday 1st June   1pm – 3pm     Our Victorian Town

The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, who would you like to be? Discover our Victorian town, take a trip back in time to Malton in Victorian times and become a local trader. Then create your own finger puppet and be part of the story

Suitable for all ages

 

Thursday 28th July    1pm -3pm       Building Bridges

Become a Roman engineer for the afternoon. A hand’s on workshop exploring why Romans were successful in building bridges, look at different materials – what works and what does not?

Suitable for age 7 – 11 years

                  

Thursday 4th August   1pm – 3pm     All shook up!

Have you ever wondered how butter is made? How does that creamy spread come from something as liquid as milk? In this workshop children will not only get chance to make butter, but also discover how temperature affects the butter-making process.

You will be able to try the butter spread on some crackers.

Suitable for ages 7 – 11 years

 

Wednesday 10th August      1pm -3pm        Sharing the Sheep!

Do you know what we can make from the fleece of a sheep? Our “have a go workshop” will give you the chance to try lots of crafts using sheep’s wool. Weaving, spinning, and felting are just a few ideas. Make something to take home to show your new skills.

Wednesday 17th August    1pm – 3pm                 Tales from the Castle

Join us for another interactive story of knights, dragons and princesses.

Get into character by making a face mask, then WHIZZ…. back to Medieval times with our troubadour to get involved in the tale.

Wednesday 26th October          1pm – 3pm          Hoards of Coins

How long have we used coins to buy and sell? Do you know how to identify coins? Handle some of our Roman coins. Bring along any coins you have found to let our expert look and tell. Design your own new coin for the 21st century.

Suitable for ages 5-11 years.

Cost

We are a charity therefore we do charge a small fee to cover the cost of materials which is adults £1, children £1.

How to find us

We are located on the B1248 Yorkersgate in Malton. Our nearest car parks are Market Place – 2 hours free parking, and Water Lane – pay and display.Our postcode for sat nav instructions is YO17 7AB.  Bus and train stations are within easy reach walking reach of the museum.

Key information

The museum consists of two exhibition rooms and an entrance lobby. To enter the museum there are three stone steps.
